I took the sock with me yesterday on a road trip around the metro area while DH and I were seeking out new hobby shops. It only took me three hours total, but I finally finished the thing. I waited until we got home to try it on, since disrobing my foot in the car didn’t seem like a good idea at the time. I decided I would make it a special occasion, once we got home I helped DH get everything in, took a break and then rather ceremoniously plopped down on the couch to try on the sock. I thought to myself, gee if this thing looks as cute as I think it will maybe I’ll knit the other!
Lets just say, its a good idea I waited until we got home to do all of this since we would have probably been pulled over as I tore the stupid thing to shreds, noodley yarn and DPNs flying everywhere. THE STUPID SOCK DOESN’T FIT! The ankle is too tight, I can hardly get it over my heel. Who knew that feet could grow over a period of two or three years?? When I cast on the foot fit perfectly, like a dream, or a sock! And I disticntly remember it fitting over my heel before when it was still on the needles. But now I almost have to rip it to get it over my heel and when its on it feels like a vice grip. So what the heck happened? I thought maybe I could undo the cast off and use larger needles for a few rows or something… then reality hit me. If I stuck another set of needles in these things they would never be seen again. This has to be the longest anyone had ever taken to knit one sock, so trying to alter it now seems like bit of a waste. Especially when in my mind I know I’m going to stuff this thing into hibernation deep into the bottom of my stash where no one can hear it scream.
RIP Sock
