This is what happened last night… I had to frog Hedera. I discovered my gauge was very far off and it was just not fixable. The sock is supposed to measure 7″ around the top relaxed. Mine was pushing 5.5″. I wondered why I had such trouble getting the dang thing on! I’ve decided to re-start after this weekend and use different needles AND yarn. I’m going to use the yarn I dyed last weekend instead. Its a little heavier than the Wildefoot, so using slightly larger needles will be offset.
Though this all seems like a great plan, I have to get the new needles yet (from Knit Picks) and knit another swatch. I’m getting the 2-at-a-Time Socks book too, so I’m going to attempt doing them both on circulars at the same time. Someone on Knitty suggested I use a sock generator to get the precise measurements and just use the Hedera lace pattern. If I was going to use the same yarn and needles again I’d probably just add one more repeat into the mix… I will just have to let this one play out as it goes! I was really bummed to rip back the entire sock. But on some level I feel a little relieved, because its one less thing in my knitting bag for the time being.
