I’ve been spinning a fair amount lately so rather than finishing sweaters and things I’ve been making yarn. Look at this! I bought this cheap practice wool to play with and I never thought it would turn out so lovely! I’ve got the itch to spin more than one ounce now because I have no idea what to do with 47 yards of handspun wool. And as gorgeous as it is its itchy as hell, so I don’t know that I’ll do much more than drool over it.
I also recently had an interesting dyeing incident… I dyed this yarn about six months ago. It sat in my stash for months while I pined over other things. I finally decided to bust it out and do something with it last week.
It’s gorgeous right? Yeah I’m tooting my own horn, but its totally cool yarn! So I popped it onto my swift (did I mention I got one for Christmas? And a ball winder?) and spun it into a pretty ball. There was only one problem… when I started to knit it up it started to look like clown vomit. No I did not take a picture of said clown vomit. It was that bad!! So I wound it back into a hank and dyed it. Black.
I used dilluted black so it turned my clown vomit into (drum roll) goth clown vomit!
Its still a little overwhelming so I’m not sure its destined to become anything yet. I’ve got some other things to keep me busy until I try this one again. >.<

It’s fascinating how something that looks great in one state, doesn’t look so great in another! ‘Goth Clown Vomit’ made me laugh out loud – thank you for that! You wouldn’t get a job with a paint company. I think with fresh eyes, it would look very good. Write a label for it along the lines of “Moonlit riverside”, put it away until you’ve forgotten its history, then rediscover it. You’ll love it then. I agree, I think there’s a market for knitting patterns which require less than 40 yards!
Moonlit riverside is an awesome new name for that yarn!! I’m not very good at naming things, I tend to stray towards the morbid terms, as I’m sure you noticed! ^_^ Thanks!
I hear you about the intensity, but I have to say that I really like the muted version of this colorway. Poor yarn… you think it will ever live down being labelled clown vomit? *smile* Have you knit a new swatch with the black overdye? I think the colors are quite nice now. What is the weight? There are some great patterns that highlight the fun of multicolor handdyed yarns. Good luck!
